Hello, My Name Is…

keyboard and mouse

Hey there!

My name is Meri. I’m a 23-year-old from the UK. Welcome to my blog: Life Stained Pages. We hope you’ll stay and hang around for tea/coffee, cakes and biscuits. So grab a cosy chair and, I guess, here’s a little bit about me and how I got here:

I’m sure what you’d love to hear is that I’ve been an avid reader all my life – that I’ve read hundreds upon thousands of books – but I’m actually a fairly ‘new’ enthusiastic reader. Confession: I haven’t even read the entire Harry Potter series… yet. I read on and off throughout my childhood: encouraged by my bookworm mum but put off by the books at school. During college and university, the workload got too much and I fell into almost a complete reading slump. I read maybe three or four books that I actually wanted to read during the three years.

It Wasn’t All Bad

My favourite part of the year was still the scholastic book fair (it was my mum’s favourite part of the year too!). I was also a part of my junior and high school book clubs and still own the copy of Lionboy I won after taking part in a book quiz event. I haven’t read it yet but hey, I still have it. My favourite childhood books include Peter Pan and Matilda, both of which I’ve read on numerous occasions throughout my life and still love to this day. When I really get into a book, I can devour it in a day or two.

Post- Reading Slump

I finally broke free of my reading slump in November 2016 while on holiday in Lanzarote. I started my free trial of kindle unlimited and poured through 5-6 books over the week. Once I got back, I decided to put some concerted effort into keeping up my reading and, well, here I am 17 books later. It probably doesn’t sound like much but given that my average books read for the years previous has been pretty much 1-2 – it’s one hell of an improvement.

Around about the same time as I came out of my reading slump, I discovered the world of book bloggers and bookstagrammers while helping my mum to promote her debut novel, Catalyst. I was completely in awe and ever since I’ve been trying to successfully launch my own blog (I’m a bit of a perfectionist so it’s been a process)! Several months later, here I am.

What now?

The thing is, when you stumble across the bookish community online, there are SO MANY NEW THINGS. Like book memes and book tags and bookstagram/twitter/booktube and reading challenges. I really want to just try/do everything. But, so that I don’t take on too much all in one go, I’m trying to introduce things one at a time.

So, I’m aiming for a proper blog post every other week until I find my feet. In between those posts I’ll be sharing bookish quotes and have a question post series “Getting to Know You” aimed at, well, getting to know all of you lovely people! I also have a few ‘easy’ reading challenges lined up with one that I started in January. You’ll find out more about those soon! Hopefully, I’ll have a few fun reviews and a FairyLoot unboxing or two for you soon. I’ve also picked out a couple of fun looking bookish memes to try out.
