The Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

The Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

I was tagged to do this Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag by Rosie over at Rosie Freckle Reads. I’m so excited to do this because it’s my first ever book tag. I haven’t read that many books so far this year so I’m sorry if there’s a lot of repetition – I can’t help it ok!! I have highlighted anywhere that might have spoilers, just keep scrolling if you haven’t read the book to be on the safe side! Here we go:

1. The Best Book of the Year So Far:

I can’t really pick the best book of the year – more like two best books of the year – but given that the second book can feature in the next category, I will only list the one. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. If you’ve seen my recent review, you probably already have an idea of how much I loved this book.

2. The Best Sequel of the Year So Far:

Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Quite often I find that the second book onwards tend not to be as good as the first but Gemina (even though I wasn’t convinced because of the change to see the ongoing story from two new characters) did not disappoint. AT ALL. It was just as fabulous as the first book.

3. A New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To:

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.  I’ve heard such amazing things about this book and how it is an amazing diverse book. I came to the realisation the other day that I don’t read nearly enough diverse and LGBTQIA+ books and I really want to try to change that in the second half of the year. I still need to read the 100+ books on my TBR before I buy too many books but at least if I receive books as gifts I’m hoping to make more of them diverse and LGBTQIA+. I’d also like to read When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon.

4. Most Anticipated Release for Autumn/Winter:
